Results / National Championship, part of the RS Games Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy - 23/08/2018

Day 1
Glorious sunshine and steady breeze.
The fleet set out into the harbour for the first three races of the championships.
The fleet was closely followed out by our Vareo support Rib.
With clear first start the close racing fleet headed to the windward mark. New comer Jon found the windward mark and lead the race. But with some finish line confusion Nick sailed around him to take the first win followed by Jon and Luke.
The wind rapidly increased for the second race which saw Jon’s mast on the water break just after the start. The rest of the fleet carried on. Luke lead the way closely followed by Cheryl and Nick.
Last strong wind race of the day saw Cheryl lead from the start closely followed by Alan and Luke.
It was not meant to be with the wind increasing yet again a final struggle down wind saw Luke take First followed with by Alan and Cheryl.
There was a new personal best achievement on the water for Mike his highest place achieved in his second Nationals.
Day 2
The fleet awoke to gales and the wind building.
After a lengthy postponement full of tea drinking and boat fine tuning, there was a responsible decision by the race officer and fleet to abandon for the day.
The fleet ventured into the club and opened the bar early just in time for our AGM, which was very informative. There were some great ideas put forward to and from the joint chairman/ lady Nick and Cheryl who were elected to continue to look after the fleet.
We are open to more ideas, so if you could not attend and wish to add please contact us through the association website.
Day 3
On the final day we were greeted with Weymouth and Portland’s finest champagne sailing conditions, after a sdhore day on day 2 where fine boat tuning and help with any questions and Queries were the oprder of the day..
The whole fleet set out to complete four races to finish the Nationals. There was everything to play for as there was still no fixed front runner. Everyone was back on top form and eager to sail.
First race saw Nick Crickmore have a flying start up the left hand side of the beat up to the windward mark, closely followed by Luke Fisher and Jon Nuttall. Nick would later repeat this in race four of the day to take two wins of the day. .
Race two and three were led from the start by the new comer Jon Nuttall with his fight and determination to get back into the top three, but even with all his efforts it was too late.
Ashore the RS Vareo prize giving was combined with the wrapo up ceremony for the whole RS Games. We all reflected on how well the event had gone and shared our experiences.
