Welcome:

Chair Matt Yallop warmly welcomed everyone.  He stated that the RS Vareo fleet was enjoying racing together at a great venue.  He looked forward to a strong future for the RS Vareo class.

2013 minutes were not found.  The Chair checked through 2012 minutes and decided that there were no outstanding matters which needed attention.

Election of class reps:

Matt Yallop was unanimously voted in as Chair. The floor thanked him for stepping up to the position.

Fleet communication:

a.   The Secretary requested that the class slimmed down its fleet communication.  Currently it uses fast news, forum, yahoo group and facebook. 

b.  The fleet agreed to stop using yahoo groups.  The Secretary will send out a number of migration messages on yahoo to inform its readers how to use the forum.  The Secretary will investigate how to preserve any useful information that is held within the yahoo group.

c.  The Secretary will continue to use facebook in addition to fast news and the forum.

d.  Those present gave their email addresses to the Chair so that he could personally email them.

Review of 2014 season:

2014 had many events, the majority of which were poorly attended.  The fleet agreed that the events need to be focussed around hub RS Vareo clubs.  This should enable numbers to be driven up.  The draft calendar reflects this intention.

Preview of 2015 calendar incl coaching:

2015 calendar:

a.  The fleet are happy with the draft calendar for 2015.

b.  The fleet requested that there be an open meeting at Netley in 2016.  The club has recently undergone both an office and a committee restructuring so such a booking could now be considered.  The Secretary proposed that Netley be asked to host the Nationals in 2017.  The fleet supported this idea.

c.  It is suggested that a buddy system be adopted for the 2015 Nationals because this has worked very well in the past.

d.  It is also requested that the Nationals competitors be split into gold and silver fleets, numbers allowing.

Coaching:

a.  Andy Howard is a Class 2 coach.  Matt Yallop and Cheryl Wood can coach too.  The fleet considered where coaching would best sit in the calendar.  It is agreed to try to tie coaching into a weekend event.  The Secretary explained the RS Coaching offer: free to Class Association members and £39 to non-members but that includes one year’s free membership.

b.  Andy Howard will look into running a coaching event at Llandegfedd over a weekend with a club event. 

c.  The Secretary is asked to send out a coaching poster to hub RS Vareo clubs when it is organised.

AOB:

a.  The Secretary is asked to add one day class association membership fee as an option for online event entry.  This would enable a non-member to join up for an event and take full advantage of the pre-entry discount.  The information to be filled in on the paper form would still need to be captured.

Afternote: The Secretary is sorting this for the End of Seasons.

b.  The Chair asked for his great thanks to the previous Chair Richard Willows to be formally noted.  He is especially pleased that Richard spent time sorting out the Nationals keeper prizes. 

Afternote:  Richard Willows was thrilled at these kind words and asked for his warm greetings to be sent out to the fleet.  He may yet return to race in an RS Vareo....

c.   The Chair asked the Secretary to find out how many RS Vareos had been made this year.

d.   Andy Howard will produce a report on the problems associated with the spinnaker pole launch system.  The report will be verified by the Chair and then the Secretary will take forward to RS.

Date of next meeting:

The 2015 RS Vareo Annual General Meeting will be held one evening during the Volvo Noble Marine RS Vareo National Championship at Dovey YC, Aberdovy 9-12 July 15.
